The pandemic has caused a rise in cyber security threats.

The Rising Pandemic Cyber Security Battle

The President’s Corner by Tavis Patterson

It’s now been over four months that we’ve been working remotely in our offices due to the pandemic, and I’m sure many of you are doing the same. We’ve made the conscious decision to stay remote until we get a better feel for what kind of virus numbers we will see consistently or when the State of Michigan gives a better outlook. Unfortunately, neither has happened yet, so we will continue to service you our clients remotely as best we can during all of this.

I’m very proud of my team and the diligent efforts they have showed during all of this. Some of our clients have even commented they thought we were all back in the office, which is a credit to everyone. It takes a lot of extra communication to try and keep everyone on the same page in a service industry business while working remotely.

We have seen a large increase in the number of calls from our clients as many continue to work remotely. No longer do clients have the luxury of talking to their office point of contact directly to see if they can help so they are calling us more and more. And with all the differing home environments its been a real challenge to try and keep some semblance of standards in place.

One area where this is severely highlighted is in cyber security. During this pandemic we have seen a marked rise in phishing and ransomware attempts at all of our clients. Now more than ever is the time to make sure you spend MORE on your IT security and not less. I know it’s not easy to spend more but these security issues will only get worse and not better as the days move forward. Make sure to act NOW to avoid issues rather than face a complete business shutdown.
