I know, it’s time to move on from DinosaursRule123. You know, the password you created as a kid that still happens to be your bank password. In this week’s blog post we are going to review some bad habits to avoid when creating your password. Let’s look at 4 mistakes to avoid when creating a password.
1. Creating a “Simple” Password
Is your password “password”? TAZ Networks recommends using a number and complex character in each of your passwords. Avoid using common information in your passwords as well, most hackers know your last name. If any of these apply to you, we recommend changing your current password as soon as possible.
2. Repeating Passwords
What if you have a complex password that is shared across every platform you are on. Essentially, when you create an amazing password that is used frequently it dilutes the complexity of that password. If your password gets hacked or appears in a data leak on one website, suddenly, they can have access to every account that you have ever made.
3. Never Changing Your Password
TAZ Networks recommends frequently changing your password to protect your data. Especially if your password appears in a leak, make sure that you change your passwords.
4. Single Factor Authentication
MFA (multi-factor authentication) can provide an extra layer of protection from hackers. If this is not enabled, you are solely relying on a single password to protect some of your most important data. TAZ Networks strongly recommends utilizing MFA whenever it is available.
Of course, we are all guilty of this, it is impossible to remember a different password for every website you have ever been on. However, make sure that your important passwords follow these rules.
