Well it’s time to kick off another new year. For 2021, we have set a corporate goal to have compliance discussions with all of our clients. As we know, it takes some time for enterprise-level compliance and testing items to reach down to us in the SMB space.
This year we are going to see a tremendous need for many clients to get NIST 800-171 compliant. Why? Because many of our clients work for contractors that are dealing directly with the Department of Defense from a national level. As a result of mandates set out to make sure that all vendors are compliant with cybersecurity best practices, the Department of Defense is requiring the “big boy companies” and their own vendors to be running the technology in their companies in a way that doesn’t lend itself to unclassified information being unprotected.
Will it cause 100% security? We know it won’t. But it will go a long way towards strengthening many small businesses that feel they are “too small” to get hacked. We know this is NOT the case.
NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) has a list of cyber security standards (and much more) to protect controlled unclassified information for vendors. It’s the 800-171 standard. Let us help with this today!
