SonicWall, Microsoft, and Amazon all announced some cool new technology this week. Between those and the Apple releases on September 12, we have some catching up to do!
SonicWall
SonicWall released new hardware and software in order to provide an even more proactive and integrated network security platform. The NSA 2650 and upgraded wireless access points comply with next-generation 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless standards. As well, SonicWall has overhauled the operating system and back-end management, which will make our lives easier as your tech partner. For you, the two key points are faster and more secure.
Microsoft
If you wondered why they bought LinkedIn last year, Microsoft finally announced some early integration with Office 365. According to TechCrunch, Office 365 profile cards will start showing information pulled from LinkedIn. Eventually, this integration will also come to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales.
In addition, Microsoft announced the release timeline for the non-subscription version of Office 2019. Expect it to be available in the second half of 2018. Office 2019 should include the usual suite of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. For our part, we recommend moving to Office 365, at least for easy email access in the cloud, unless a business has a compelling reason not to move to the subscription model.
Amazon
The former bookstore just announced a redesigned, smaller basic Echo, as well as the Echo Plus, Echo Spot, and Echo Buttons. (Add your own “echo… echo… echo…” joke here.) This writer’s personal favorite is the Echo Spot, which looks like an Echo Show and an analog clock had a very cute baby.
Apple
Of course, everyone has heard by now about the upgraded Apple Watch, TV, iPhone 8 and iPhone X (uh, “ten”). Our initial excitement from new Apple gear has been tempered by the (very typical) glitches that have popped up with the new iOS release. The big problem for anyone with a business email address, unfortunately, is that iOS 11 is not working correctly with Outlook. We’re confident that Apple will have a solution soon, and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear about it. Update: Apple has released iOS 11.0.1, which should fix the issue.
Did we miss anything? What cool new technology do you want to hear about? Let us know!
